FINAL FANTASY TACTICS - The Ivalice Chronicles by Square Enix is a tactical RPG set in the kingdom of Ivalice, where political intrigue and warfare shape the landscape. The story unfolds after the Fifty Years' War, with dukes Goltanna and Larg vying for control, leading to the War of the Lions. Players take on the roles of Ramza Beoulve and his companion Delita, navigating through a time of uncertainty. The strongest differentiator in this title is the strategic depth offered by the War of the Lions, which players must navigate using a combination of jobs, abilities, and strategic positioning.

Strategic Combat and Terrain

Combat in The Ivalice Chronicles emphasizes strategic positioning and the manipulation of turn order across 3D battlefields. Players can capitalize on varied terrain to gain tactical advantages. With over 20 jobs available, including staples like white mage and dragoon, players can customize their parties to suit different challenges. Abilities learned in one job can be retained and used in others, allowing for flexible strategy development and experimentation.

Enhanced and Classic Versions

This title offers both enhanced and classic versions, catering to different player preferences. The enhanced version features improved graphics, fully voiced dialogue, and refined gameplay mechanics, alongside a Squire difficulty setting to accommodate newcomers. Controller options are extensive, supporting a variety of inputs including keyboard and mouse. The classic version retains the original 1997 graphics and gameplay, with the War of the Lions translation providing a unique narrative experience, though it limits controls to XInput controllers and keyboards.

Job System and Character Progression

Character progression is driven by a robust job system, where party members can access new roles and abilities as they grow. The ability to mix and match skills across jobs encourages players to craft unique strategies tailored to their play style. With hundreds of abilities to learn and creatures like Chocobos to tame, the game invites players to explore diverse tactical combinations, enhancing the overall depth of gameplay in the Ivalice realm.
